“The new woman, the new Filipina, is first and foremost a militant. The new Filipina is one who can stay whole nights with striking workers, learning from them the social realities which her bourgeois education has kept from her. She is a woman who has discovered the exalting realm of responsibility, a woman fully engaged in the making of history. No longer is she a woman-for-marriage, but more and more a woman-for-action.”
-Lorena Barros, (1948-1976)
Founder of the Malayang Kilusan ng Bagong Kababaihan (MAKIBAKA), a militant women’s organization
Also a graduate of BA Anthropology (1970) in UP DilimanPagpupugay sa lahat ng mga Bagong Kababaihang lumalaban!

miget you my hero! After talking a break for several months, I started again recently helping my grandfather, Tun Jack Lujan as his apprentice. Here is what we worked on this week.
1 adze or metal blade for a higam, an axe used to carve canoes.
1 kamyo, or coconut grater blade.
2 small Bowie knives
2 mini-machetes, something that my family has been making for more than 90 years now as gifts.
We would probably be labeled as three of the youngest conscious hip-hop artists on island, which is totally fine by me!

no more hearing white kids calling indigenous people racist
no more hearing white kids make fun of our accents
no more hearing white kids complaining about cleaning ladys
no more hearing white kids complaining about how expensive it is here
no more hearing white kids talk about how they wanna move here and teach and save all the little brown kids so conveniently located in one of the most beautiful places in the world
no more hearing white kids talk about how they’re going to my other homeland (the phils) so they can get massages and buy things for really cheap and scuba dive and not even realize how exploitative they all are.
